Cross Axles

A Cross Axle is a rounded rod notched axially to create an "×" shape in cross section. When placed through a hole the axle could turn freely but when placed into a complementary shaped cross hole the axle was held in position. One of the original 1977 elements, cross axles have appeared in every Technic set, and have been used for a wide variety of purposes. The original cross axles were always even lengths but as construction with the rounded beams became common in the late 1990's odd length axles were produced.
