Pre-Technic Cross Axles
A Cross Axle is a rounded rod notched axially to create an "×"
shape in cross section. When placed through a hole the axle could turn freely
but when placed into a complementary shaped cross hole the axle was held in position.
These axles, molded in a semi-transparent white, were used in a number of sets in the 1970s,
such as the European 800 and 810 Gear Wheel series, as well as several Hobby Sets and other
sets of the mid 70's. They were part of a pre-technic system which included gears,
cross axles and connectors. Although compatable
with the later Technic cross axles they are not identical. All of these early
cross axles were only produced in translucent white |
